  • 3 cups diced & peeled apples (about 2 large apples)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch springform pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In another bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time followed by vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until combined. Fold in apples and nuts if using.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35 to 40 minutes.
  6. While baking, prepare caramel sauce by combining brown sugar, half & half, and butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat until smooth.
  7. Drizzle caramel over the cake after initial baking; return to oven for an additional 10 to 15 minutes.
  8. Allow cooling before serving.
