  • 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, room temperature (for frosting)
  • 1/2 cup full-fat cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste (for frosting)
  • 1 tsp fine salt (for frosting)
  • 8 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 2 Tbsp heavy whipping cream, room temperature (for frosting)
  • Electric Green Gel Food Coloring (for decoration)
  • Black Gel Food Coloring (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together cake flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and mix in buttermilk, oil, green gel food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Divide batter between pans and bake for about 28 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool.
  6. For frosting, beat softened butter and cream cheese together before gradually adding powdered sugar and heavy cream.
  7. Frost cooled cakes and decorate as desired.
